Exeter City Council has announced that cash from the sale of Exeter Airport could be used to fund a much needed new swimming pool.
Devon County Council sold Exeter Airport to a private company in 2007 for over £60 million but little of the windfall has been reinvested in the city.
Members of the City Council's Scrutiny Community Committee will discuss the way forward for a pool on Tuesday 9 March 2010. Last year the City Council decided that it would not refurbish the ageing Pyramids Swimming Pool in Heavitree Road but instead look towards building a new pool elsewhere. A working group of councillors has been looking at a number of options.

A plea for more support and donations from local residents has been issued by Kingsteignton Swimming Pool. Last year, the pool celebrated its 30th anniversary but also ran at a deficit of nearly £30,000.
Rydon and St Michaels Primary Schools and the Ugbrooke Environmental Trust are amongst those who have pledged donations.

Over the past 5 years, Olympic swimmer Chris Cook has worked with more than 50 swimming clubs across the UK, helping them to achieve success and offering them an insight into the mindset of a World Class swimmer. Chris gained international success with 2 Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, reaching the Olympic Final in Beijing and achieving over 30 representations for Great Britain.
"No top class athlete just arrives at the top of their sport, nor do they decide to pop along to the Olympics with no training behind them - it takes years and years of grafting. More often than not, it takes years of hard work with very little reward along the way, but if you want it enough and are determined to go and grab what could be yours, then it's there for the taking!"

The three separate opportunities will cover the commercial charter of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) and motor yachts, the purchase of RIBs and other boats direct from the manufacturers and the sourcing of outboard motors direct from the marine engine manufacturers.
