Eight of Britains best open water swimmers took part in the Midmar 10km International earlier today as they competed in their second and final race in South Africa.
The women took a clean-sweep of the medals for the second time in two days as Olympic medallist Cassie Patten took gold in 2:06.05 closely followed by Sophie Casson in silver with a time of 2:07.01 and Keri-Anne Payne finishing in third in 2:10.29.
World Champion Keri-Anne Payne retained her title in South Africas Midmar Mile race on Valentines day as the Brits took all of the podium places in the womens race.
Olympic silver medallist Payne touched home first in 19 m 24 s, closely followed by team-mates Katy Whitfield winner of the Great London Swim, in 19 m 27 s and Olympic bronze medallist Cassie Patten in 19 m 30 s.
Charlotte Wooliscroft was fourth in 19 m 34 s with Sophie Casson taking fifth place in the race.
World Championship swimmer Daniel Fogg took silver in the mens race with European Junior medalist Tom Allen taking eighth. British Gas ITC Stockport swimmer David Carry came 13th.

Swimathon 2010 is offering the opportunity for an ASA swimming club to benefit from a visit and training session from Olympic Gold medallist Duncan Goodhew.
Swimathon is the worlds biggest fundraising swim involving over 500 pools across the country. The event is held between 16-18 April 2010 and your club members can enter at www.swimathon.org or by calling 0845 36 700 36.

The ASA are to employ 300 trainee Aquatic Assistants in work placements across the country within local leisure centres and pool providers.
The six-month long placements, funded through the National Skills Academy and the governments Future Jobs Fund, are available for young people aged 18-24 who have been out of work for around a year.
As well as gaining valuable work experience, trainees will have the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications including the ASA UKCC Level 1 Certificate in Teaching Aquatics and RLSS National Pool Lifeguard. They will also attend the ASAs in house training on the governments Free Swimming initiative and benefit from vocational training in areas such as customer service, swim21 Learn to Swim Accreditation and sports development.

There are now just days to go until the elite of British swimming take on the might of the German swimming team in straight finals and Britains top athletes have been putting their final touches to their race preparations.
The two-day meet will provide athletes with the chance for some tough head-to-head clashes - one of which will see Britains Ross Davenport taking on World Champion Paul Biedermann.

Plymouth Diving's World Champion Tom Daley has been named in the shortlist for the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award 2010.
Daley became the countrys youngest world champion when he impressed the diving community by beating Olympic Champion Matt Mitcham and Olympic medallist Luxin Zhou to the gold in Rome.
Following a successful funding bid from Flourish Homes, Street & District Swimming Club would welcome applications from interested parties to work closely with the committee in achieving further funding opportunities, gaining Swim 21 accreditation and generally helping with the fast moving pace and development of the club. At its 122nd Session in Vancouver, the International Olympic Committee elected Nanjing, China to host the Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.
Poznan Poland, the only other candidate in the race, was defeated by a vote of 47-42. Guadalajara, Mexico dropped out of the race last month.
The first Youth Olympic Games will be held in August 2010 in Singapore (and the first Winter edition will be held in Innsbruck, Austria in 2012)
The Youth Olympic Games, designed for athletes aged 14-18 years, is a concept championed by IOC President Jacques Rogge as a means to move young people from their screens to playing fields.

Following on from the success of the British Gas Duel in the Pool, Britain has selected s top swimmers to take on Germany. The British Swimming Team powered by British Gas includes double Olympic Champion Rebecca Adlington, World Champion Liam Tancock and Olympic medallists Jo Jackson and David Davies.
The British Womens Water Polo team, powered by British Gas, have begun their preparations for the LEN European A Qualifiers with a training camp against the Hungarian national team bronze medallists in the last LEN European Nations Trophy.
The four-day camp, being held in Budapest, is the first international training camp that the team have participated in since the French national team came to Manchester in October.
With two weeks to go until the British Gas Water Polo Championships 2010, Britains top mens Water Polo clubs have begun their campaign to be crowned National Champions.
Eight mens teams competed in the Preliminary Round of the event on 6-7 February 2010 at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Clubs from around the country competed in two groups in a round-robin format, with the top-two finishers in each group earning their place in the Final of the British Gas Water Polo Championships which takes place 20-21 February 2010.
Water polo coaches are the focus of two exciting new developments in the ASAs ongoing programme for aquatic education in England.
The first ASA/UKCC Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Water Polo course will take place this Spring when a pilot group of water polo coaches will undertake the next step in extending their professional training and development. The course will then be available to all candidates later this year.
Secondly, water polo coaches in England are invited to become the latest to benefit from the Advanced Coaching Offer, an ambitious coaching programme offered in conjunction with the ASA Talent Development team.
The Government has provided funding for respite care for parents and carers of disabled children and Dorset County Council has teamed up with partners to create an exciting programme of events to create regular breaks . Disabled children will be able to take part in football, gymnastics, trampolining, multi-sports and swimming at various venues across the county, many of which are free of charge.
Session instructors and coaches will try to adapt the activities as far as possible to make them accessible to all comers.

The final day of competition of the British Gas National Cup 2010 saw Olympic silver medallist Peter Waterfield beat Plymouth's World Champion Tom Daley to the gold medal in the mens 10m Individual.
Southampton Divings Waterfield started the competition with his Front 3 ½ Somersaults piked and he left the water to scores of nines and tens to give himself the perfect start.
Daley performed his new dive the Back 2 ½ Somersaults 2 ½ Twists piked in the first round and improved the entry from this morning to score well.

The City of Leeds Diving Club enjoyed a medal haul on the second day of the British Gas National Cup 2010 with a total of four medals.
Helen Galashan, who won bronze at the 2009 European Diving Championships, claimed the National title in the womens 10m Individual after performing consistently throughout the competition.

Olympic silver medallist Peter Waterfield and his club-mate Chris Mears took victory from Callum Johnstone and Ashton Hall in the mens 3m Synchro on the first day of the British Gas National Cup 2010.
The Southampton Diving pair started the competition with strong required dives and then scored well on their first optional dive, the Front 3 ½ Somersaults piked, but suffered from a missed Inward 3 ½ Somersaults tucked as they fell down the leader board.
Somerset County Council's Regulation Committee has granted planning permission for a new pool and leisure centre to be built alongside Chilton Trinity School as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
In November 2009, a similar plan had been rejected by Somerset County Council after concerns over traffic congestion and access were raised.

Pensioners are making a splash at Brixham's indoor pool thanks to free swimming lessons. The Admiral Swimming Centre has teamed up with the Amateur Swimming Association to offer free tuition to the over 60s who cannot swim.
More than 15 pensioners have signed up for the first round of free sessions and now more courses are planned for April.
Centre manager Phil Thomas said: "They are loving it. It's an obvious confidence boost to learn to swim. Many were a bit apprehensive at first but once they take the first step they are fine. Once they get over that barrier of not being able to swim they find they enjoy learning a new skill. One of the swimmers has arthritis and she is finding being in the water really helps."
National Water Polo League and National Women's Polo League delegates agreed at meetings on 24 January to merge the competitions and launch a new organisation - the British Water Polo League. A 10-strong shadow board - featuring five representatives from each league - has been formed to oversee the transition period leading to the historic first annual meeting of the BWPL in May.
The new name has been approved by the Board of British Swimming.
NWPL and NWWPL league programmes will continue to run independently in 2010 as already arranged. By September 2011, the new organisation will be fully integrated.
A recent survey of teachers and coaches showed that the content of the ASA Development Framework for Teaching and Coaching in England 2009-2013 largely met their needs and that of the wider coaching workforce.
