Work has got underway to build a new £190,000 permanent skate park in Dorchester, Dorset, following years of fundraising and campaigning by local young people.
Three Dorset Pentathletes struck gold at the World Biathle Championships in Cape Town, South Africa. One of which was our very own 2007 Active Dorset Award winner Mellisa Courtney who won her event along with Gracie Howie and Ian Hughes while Carole Smith took silver and father and son duo Hugh and Nick Ireland claimed bronze.
Nominations are invited from footballers wishing to take part in the National Mencap football trials at Warwick University on Sunday, 3 February 2008.
Fifteen players will be selected to represent Mencap in Switzerland for a European football tournament. The squad will fly to Geneva on Thursday 28 May and return on Monday 1 June 2009.
There will also be a weekend training camp in South Wales on
1 to 3 May to prepare the squad for the event. Further details of the training camp will be given to players selected on the day at Warwick.

Further to last months newsletter we can now report on the results of the Special Olympics Deadlift event held during the Bournemouth University Open Weightlifting Competition.
Young sailors received expert on the water training during an Onboard Race Training Day at Sutton Bingham Sailing Club near Yeovil. For many of the youngsters it was their first opportunity to participate in organised club racing, while others enjoyed pitting their skills against the other clubs.
Funded through Sport England and Westlea Housing Association this is a new post with a focus on increasing the number of people taking part in alternative sports with a particular focus on those living in Westlea Housing neighbourhoods.
