The British Olympic Association (BOA) have selected World University Games 2007 Team GBR Flag Bearer Alex O'Connell (Fencing - Cambridge) as a further member of Team GB for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Members only have two days left to nominate candidates to stand for the Executive Group of British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) the new organisation for university sport.
Entries will close on Wednesday 14 May 2008.
UWE Hartpury walked away with the BUSA Mens Football Championship today. The soaring heat and humid conditions played an integral part at Loftus Road, QPR as Bath once again lost out in the final to Hartpury by a single goal, this year 2-1.

The BUSA Outdoor Athletics Championships got off to a flying start in the sun in Bedford with over 1000 athletes descending on the Bedford International Athletics Stadium in preparation for three days of intense competition. Two Championship Best Records have already fallen and with 24 finals taking place today (Monday) this year may be one of the strongest BUSA Outdoor Championships yet.
The new organisation for university sport in the UK is to host its first conference in June at the University of Sussex.
The University of Birmingham took home two of the titles on offer at the finals of the BUSA Golf Team Championships 2008, held at Lindrick Golf Club in Nottinghamshire this week. Birmingham overcame St Andrews in a closely fought Championship Final, with the Birmingham 4th team also beating Liverpool 1st in the Shield Final. Aberdeen 1st completed the winners, edging past Loughborough 2nd in the Trophy Final.

England Students won the inaugural Student Eight-ball Pool Home Internationals with a tense, nervy win over a Wales team that pushed them all the way.
In the bright sunshine yesterday (26 April 2008), a BUSA tennis representative team took on the All England LTC at their home ground and won convincingly 9-3.
With a nail-biting finish from the womens Championship this year, the mens final between UWE Hartpury 1sts and Loughborough 1sts had a lot to live up to at Twickenham.
On 17 April 08 Portsmouth University Boxing Team took on the Metropolitan Police in a club match held on University Grounds within the Lux Nightclub. The evening started with the University Dance club entering the ring to the music from The Bill and then performing a very entertaining dance display getting the 500 strong crowd completely in the mood for the upcoming bouts.
Northumbria hearts were broken today as returning Champions UWIC pinched victory, and their third consecutive title, in the BUSA womens Rugby Union Championship Final at RFU Twickenham. Both teams met with unbeaten records under their belt and the final lived up to all expectations with some great rugby and superb individual performances. With over 92 minutes (12 minutes injury time) on the clock Northumbria held a three point lead, but despite the resistance and solid defending at the try line UWIC won with a penalty try, winning the game by just two points, 22-20.
The BUSA Rugby Union season will enjoy an explosive finish this Wednesday as the four best university teams in the country meet at the home of English Rugby, RFU Twickenham. Loughborough and UWE Hartpury meet in the mens final, both confident after successful seasons, while UWIC and Northumbria womens teams both head into the final with flawless campaigns under their belt.
The weekend of 18-19 April sees the inaugural staging of the University Eight-ball Pool Home Internationals in the Premier Inn Glasgow City Centre South and will feature all five representative teams in what promises to be an exciting competition.
After 4 days of intense competition across 5 sports it was English Universities who returned home from Edinburgh with the Home Nations Festival Trustees Trophy. English Universities retained their 2006 title with some outstanding performances across a variety of sports. With maximum points obtained from football, badminton and basketball, English Universities finished on an impressive 26 points with Scottish Universities finishing 2nd with a 20 point haul.
After some great performances at British University Games this week the British Universities netball team has today been selected for fixtures against a Scottish Development team and a Welsh Development team at the end of April and beginning of May.
The penultimate day at the British University Games is drawing to a close and all the results are now in. With some shocks, high scoring games and great victories the third day at BUGs was one to remember for all the competitors.
Only the one fixture took place yesterday at BUGs as Northern Ireland opened the netball programme with a 72- 24 victory over Wales. Earlier the Games had been opened by Quentin Sloper (BUSA Director of Competitions) and Prof Steve Chapman (Vice Principal for planning and resources of Edinburgh University) with Sarah Gandon (Scottish Universities) taking the athletes pledge on behalf of the 500 competitors in attendance.
