The Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF) has announced Sweat in the City (www.sweatinthecity.co.uk), an innovative research project designed to win a better understanding of how to motivate women to become more active Run in partnership with the Fitness Industry Association (FIA), Sweat in the City is offering 3,000 16 - 24 year old women who live in London and currently do little or no exercise, a unique package of free and mentored gym membership. The GB women continue to haul in the medals as the Olympics near their end. There are too many to name individually (a great position to be in!) but there has been female medal success recently in the pool, at the velodrome, at the sailing, in the open water swim and a special mention must go to Christine Ohuruogu who has overcome more than most to win a tremendous gold in the 400m. More than a thousand women, men and children have already signed up to take part in The SunWalk Newcastle, a new Power Walking challenge from charity Walk the Walk taking place on Sunday, 7th September. But organisers Walk the Walk are aiming for even more walkers, and so want to remind people from Newcastle and beyond that it's not too late to get involved! The North East Regional Equality in Sport Conference took place recently. 118 delegates attended from the sports, community and voluntary secors to show their support for challenging barriers faced by under-represented groups within sport and physical activity. The National Women's Boxing Development Manager is organising a course next month to encourage more females into the sport as coaches and tutors. The Boxing Tutor Course is open to women over the age of 16 and is ideal for sports leaders, sports coaches, university students, health / physical activity instructors, SSCO's, PDM's, PLT's, and teachers as a whole. No previous experience is required The course enables delegates to be able to teach fun, recreational, non-contact, introductory Boxing for all! A key aspect of the course aims to enable delegates to teach the Boxing Skills Awards, which are also now part of an ASDAN qualification (GCSE equivalent) in Boxing. Boxing has a strong history as a sport of engaging with young people that are hard to reach e.g. disaffected youth
