Research announced today by the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF), shows that 78% of women and girls would play more sport if it better reflected the customer-friendly experience of shopping. Currently, eight out of ten women do too little physical activity to benefit their health and just three per cent play organised team sports

Commiserations to both the England Women's Rugby League team and the England -17 Women's Football team as they both lost their world cup semi finals. Both teams performed very well early in their competitions but couldn't quite make it to the final, the rugby league team losing to New Zealand and the football team losing to North Korea. For anyone who still has any doubts about the quality of women's football in this country.... follow this link to take a look at Isobel Christiansen's stunning last minute 40 yard strike which took the Quarter Final against Japan into extra time. Goal of the season beyond doubt

WSFF wish the England Rugby League team the best of luck as they take on New Zealand in the World Cup semi final on Wednesday 12 Nov. After a group stage where they had impressive wins over Russia and France, and a narrow defeat to Australia, the women are now one game away from the World Cup final which will be held before the men's semi final (also England v New Zealand!) on Saturday. Good luck girls! For more information on Rugby League for women and girls in this country please

WSFF were sad to see another high profile football manager put his foot in it recently. Paul Ince's comments that Premier League football 'is not a game for women' are just the latest example of comments which demonstrate that some people feel that men's sport is somehow superior to women's sport. Not many people express it quite as explicitly as Paul Ince, but other evidence (such as the amount of press coverage or investment that women's sport attracts) seems to suggest that the wider society also feels that male sport is more worthy. Is it any wonder then that less girls play sport than boys? Our Commission on the Future of Women's Sport, which holds its first meeting in December, will look at issues around investment, coverage and leadership and will produce recommendations for sport to adopt. For more information on the work of Dame Tanni and the other Commission Members, please check back here regularly. For a newspaper report on what Paul Ince said please
