Although England did not make it to this years tournament it did not prevent over 90 young footballers from having a superb day when they took part in their very own version; the Larkrise EURO 2008 Football Festival. The festival which was delivered by Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust, with the support of the Wiltshire FA Disability Strategy, took place on Wednesday 25th June 2008 at Larkrise Special School.
Wiltshire voluntary and community groups have been awarded over £120,000 to work with vulnerable young people and help reduce the number not in education, employment or training (NEET).
The Wiltshire Services for Young People funding, administered by Connexions as part of the Wiltshire NEET reduction strategy, has been awarded for the last four years, with applications from voluntary and community groups considered by a multi-agency panel and a panel of trained young people. 2008/09 recipients include Relate Mid Wiltshire, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), CFBT Education Trust, U-Too and the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Activity Partnership (WASP).
HardenHuish School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled coordinator to take responsibility for their Extended Schools programme for PE. This new and exciting opportunity will involve co-ordinating aspects of the Healthy Schools programme, administrative support of the PE department, organisation of extra curricular activities and coaching of pupils. A flexible approach to working patterns and experience within education are essential. A coaching qualification in more than one area of sport is desirable.
The position will be full time, which will be 37 hours per week worked over 5 days for 41 weeks. This is a Wiltshire grade H job and the salary will be £20,099 per annum pro rate (£10.41 per hour). Over 400 children have been involved in local qualifying rounds of a Kwik Cricket festival across North Wiltshire.
Three festivals, for both mixed teams and girls only teams have taken place as part of the Asda Kwik Cricket competition. The teams were competing to represent North Wiltshire at the County Finals to be held at Trowbridge CC on the 27th June.
The first event at Corsham CC on the 6th June for mixed teams saw a strong challenge from Sherston primary school who won their three group games convincingly. They were joined in the finals by Stanton St Quintin and Derry Hill both of whom managed to qualify from their difficult group. St Edmunds also made the semi-finals but were then beaten by 21 runs by Derry Hill in a re-match of last years final. In the other semi final Stanton scored 278 to Sheratons 247 to make it through to the final where they proved to be too strong for Derry Hill who slipped to a 24 run defeat.
Dozens of local schools went into bat for the ASDA Sport Kwik Cricket Tournament (Salisbury District Round) on 6 June.
The tournament was split into two mixed events, the South Wilts Mixed Festival and the Wyvern College Mixed Festival, together with the South Wilts Girls Festival.
In the South Wilts event, which took place at the South Wilts Cricket Club, the semi-finals saw Nomansland narrowly beat the Great Wishford team by 5 runs while the Dinton A team triumphed over Mere with their total of 223 runs.
Tuesday 17th June
A day of cycling activities effecting just over 400 people was organised by North Wiltshire District Council and Chippenham Wheelers to recognise National Bike Week. Midsummer Bike Night at Castle Combe was preceded by an afternoon of cycling provided for special educational needs students at Frogwell School, St Nicholas School and Springfield School.

In the Beijing stadium on Sunday 24th August 2008 at 3.45pm, the Mayor of Beijing will hand the Olympic flag to the Mayor of London and the UK will become the Olympic host nation.
Its a moment the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games wants us all to mark and celebrate, and there are many ways in which we can all do this.
